  • Fighting Dental Problems and Preventing Tooth Decay

Your smile is your most attractive feature, but are you taking good care of it? Are you keeping your teeth clean and healthy to prevent any damage? If not, it’s time you start showing some love to your teeth! Knowing about dental problems and how you can prevent them can help you prevent dental problems and keep your teeth healthy and strong.

    Most common dental problems

    1. Toothache

Toothache is inflammation or pain in or around a tooth that may result from gum irritation, tooth decay, impacted wisdom tooth, infection or other dental problems. Serious toothaches result from dental problems that only a dentist can diagnose and treat.

    1. Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is the degradation of tooth structure by demineralisation of its components by the action of sugar and bacterial acids. It is the result of damage to a tooth’s surface or enamel which can lead to cavities or dental infections.

    1. Cavities

Cavities are damaged holes in bad teeth that develop from tooth decay. They are formed when the tooth’s outer layer- enamel is destroyed. If cavities are left untreated they can cause severe toothache, dental infections and tooth loss.

    1. Gum disease

Gum disease is an infection that damages the gums and underlying tissue. It can range from chronic gingivitis to periodontitis. It is caused by poor oral hygiene and can also result in tooth loss.

             5.  Fluorosis

It is a condition that affects the teeth due to exposure to fluoride for a long time. Children under the age of 8 years are at risk of developing dental fluorosis.

    Preventing Dental Health Problems

Dental problems like toothache, tooth decay, gum disease, cavities, can be prevented if proper dental hygiene and care is maintained.

    • Brush & Floss Regularly

The best way to care for your teeth is regular brushing and flossing. Brushing your teeth twice a day helps you avoid decay, dental infections and prevent teeth diseases. Flossing removes plaque and food debris that your toothbrush can’t reach. It keeps your teeth clean and prevents tooth decay and gum disease.

    • Cut down on sugar

Cutting down on sugar is not only good for your health, but also for your teeth. Excessive sugar destroys your enamel and goes deeper into other layers of your teeth causing cavities. With a minimal amount of sugar, you can prevent cavities and keep your teeth healthy.

    • Visit your dentist regularly

You must visit your dentist regularly in order to maintain your oral health and hygiene. Consult a dentist for all dental problems and treatment instead of trying to cure them at home. They can diagnose and treat all dental problems related to teeth, gums and other parts of your mouth. It is recommended to visit your dentist at least once every 6 months even if you do not have any teeth problems

    • Quit Smoking

Smoking is known to increase the risk of gum disease and increase plaque levels. It damages the gums causing them to loosen around the teeth resulting in bacteria settling in these parts. If this bacteria stays for too long it causes layers of plaque to develop. Smoking is also known to spike wisdom tooth growing pain.
